Mermaid kisses...

Hey, hey! 

Yesterday I turned once again to the stack of images that I keep on my desk for when I'm short on coloring time. I found this Beautiful Chubby Mermaid 3 digi from A Day For Daisies and she was perfect. I'm quite happy to say that I've now colored two out of the three Chubby Mermaids because I think they are all fabulous. As you can see, I gave this one a head full of brassy red hair to contrast with all of the blues and greens going on throughout the scene. She definitely looks like royalty resting down there at the bottom of the sea.  :)

A beautiful bouquet...

Hey, hey! 

Yesterday was one of those days that didn't leave me with a whole lot of crafty time so once again I was able to raid the stack of images I keep on my desk and get coloring quickly. I ended up choosing this sweet digi from A Day For Daisies called, Basket Bonnet because it was giving me total Holly Hobby nostalgia from my childhood.  Apparently she has been quite busy filling her basket full of beautiful blooms and now she is heading to market with them. I created a pretty lakeside path for her to travel along and even sketched in a few flowers to match the ones in her basket. All that was left after that, was to complete the card with a sentiment from My Favorite Things. It was nice revisiting these charming ADFD images and hopefully I won't wait so long before coloring up another one.   :)

Like flowers in the spring...

Yesterday was one of those days that didn't leave me with a whole lot of crafty time so rather than stamp something new up, I went to the stack of images I keep on my desk. As I flipped through, this sweet digi from A Day For Daisies caught my eye and I knew I had a winner. This little gal is called, Mother's Day Flowers and she has been busy picking a bouquet out in the sun dappled meadow that I colored in for her. I like to think she is holding them up like that for a good inspection, making sure she got only the best blooms for her mom's bouquet. The sentiment is from a small Papertrey Ink set and it was too perfect not to pair with this cutie.  :)

In case you hadn't heard the news yet, the A Day For Daisies digital stamp shop has re-opened after being closed for a couple of years. As a long time fan of Tammy's art work I am thrilled to see her images making a come-back. To celebrate this good news I went through my stash of ADFD digis and found this sweet Ocean's Prince image to create a card with for MerMay. This darling little merbabe being visited by a wee seagull makes me all kinds of happy. I had a lot of fun embellishing the rock with starfish and barnacles and then creating a seaside village off in the distance as a focus for this little ones curiosity. The sentiment is part of the Mermaid Kisses set from Sugar Pea Designs and I thought it worked really well with this mini mermaid.

I was cruising through my digital stamp collection on my computer the other day when I came across this beautiful mermaid from A Day For Daisies. Sadly the shop has closed for good and as far as I know there isn't a way to get Tammy's lovely art work anymore. Despite that, I still wanted to color up this fab digi called Chubby Mermaid 2. It was great fun bringing this full figured mermaid to life, sticking with cool, icy hues in the hope that in the end she would kind of look like a pearl resting at the bottom of the sea. As I say in my Live videos all the time, the key is making sure you leave enough of the white card stock base showing with just the right amount of contrast to make those light areas look nice and bright.   :)

Hey there!

I've had fairies on the brain here the last couple days so when I scrolled past these cuties on my computer, while searching for a different digi, I was inspired to grab them and print them out as well. They are the four Vintage Fairy Ring fairies from A Day For Daisies which is currently closed but I think I read that they might be coming back sometime soon. I kept my coloring rather simple since the fairies themselves are on the simple side. Where I did cut loose a bit and have some fun was with trying four different skin tone combinations. I can definitely see myself using a couple of these combos again soon.

Making it shine...

Hello crafty friends! 

In case you hadn't heard the news yet, the A Day For Daisies digital stamp shop is closing its doors at the end of the month. This news breaks my heart as I have been a long time fan of Tammy's art work. I even went back into my blog archives to see when I posted my first ADFD card and it was all the way back in 2012. As I scrolled through them it was fun seeing all those cards again, many of which stick with me as some of my own personal faves during all my many years of card making. More recently I haven't had as much time as I would like to get more of these images onto cards but I just had to take a moment to say my own goodbye to a wonderful little shop. While I've still got plenty of great ADFD digis on my hard drive, I couldn't help but take advantage of the current 20% OFF the entire store sale and add a few more lovelies to my collection. This Love of Birds image was one of them and as always I just adore the moods that are captured in these loose and flowing lines. It really does feel like a bit of magic watching them come to life as you add color, fleshing them out into solid looking characters that totally transport you into their stories. And while I am sad no new images will be coming our way, I am grateful for the ones I have and look forward to continuing to create with them all for many more years to come. So here's to wishing Tammy all the best in wherever her creative journey takes her next and thank you for your amazing contribution to this wonderful hobby of ours. :)

It's been ages since I've colored up one of the lovely digital images from A Day For Daisies so I figured my current Easter card kick was the perfect excuse to print out this darling Chick in Pants and get her on a card. There is just something about this chirpy little chick in her frilly bloomers that tickles me and makes me smile. I made sure to color in the blades of grass nice and tall behind her to try and help sell her small size. I don't know about you but I think she looks ready for this Sunday's festivities. ;)

Hello, hello!

I couldn't let the summer go by without getting a lovely mermaid from A Day For Daisies on a card. They have so many beautiful mermaids to choose from that it was kinda hard to narrow it down. I finally settled on Mermaid She Dreams though I did a small alteration by masking the shoes out of her hands when I printed her out. This allowed me to add a shell and pearl instead which played back nicely to the sentiment I chose to pair with her. All the Copic colors I used were pulled to match this gorgeous Sea Maiden paper that was released from Authentique this summer, safe to say it is my favorite mermaid paper that I've gotten my hands on in quite a while. And even though I did color in a bit of a background it was fun to pull out my dies and give them a spin once again. :)

Olo!

How could I go through the Christmas season without getting an A Day For Daisies beauty on  a card? Last year I got both the Christmas Tree Fairy and Musical Bell Fairy happily homed on cards of their own so I wanted to continue working my way through the holiday fairies series with Frosty Snowflake Fairy. Initially with snow and snowflakes the mind goes to cool color palettes with lots of aquas, blues and violets but this gorgeous Christmas paper had me going in a whole different direction. Sure she has the silver skirt but the pops of red and gold really stand out against the dark forest I sketched in behind her. Then she got finished off with a healthy dose of sparkle to make her really shimmer and shine. :)

Merry Christmas...

Yesterday we got our first winter storm of the season and it dropped about five or six inches of snow on us in less than 24 hours. I think that makes this card quite appropriate to share today. This frosty fella is Mr. Snowman from A Day For Daisies and I've had him printed out for ages just waiting to get on a card. He is paired up with some classic My Mind's Eye paper that is still in my top 10 most favorite Christmas collections evah.The soft colors suited him quite nicely and I did my best to match them with my Copics.

Sing a song of Halloween...

After a long hiatus I was so excited to see some new Halloween digis at A Day For Daisies this week! I simply couldn't let this month end without getting at least one of them on a card. So I printed out the gorgeous Halloween Broom and paired her up with some paper from Authentique. I liked that it had the same kind of vintage vibe as she had. I colored her fabulous gown to match the two tones of orange in the paper and I also added some sparkle to it with Copic Spica glitter pens in orange and garnet. She is quite the stylin' witch, so much so that I have to wonder if she is pausing a moment before taking off on her broom for fear of messing up her beautiful hair-do... LOL!

An ocean of love...

Hello, hello!

I've colored up one more gorgeous mermaid from A Day For Daisies to help wrap up this month of mermaids. She's called Ocean's Beauty and I just adore her vintage look. There's something about her hair and those big ol' ribbons that bring to mind old photos of girls from the 1890's. That association is probably a big reason why she ended up in the soft, monochromatic sea green combo that I went with. It suits her quiet beauty and peaceful looking nature. The distressed paper from Basic Grey totally inspired my coloring of her tail and I love how it turned out. I even used the same Copics to color the coordinating ribbon that I added to the bottom of the card. Talk about a totally different look from yesterday's card but that is why mermaids are so much fun, bright and bold or soft and subtle, they always look amazing.  :)

I'd cross an ocean for you...

Hello, hello!

I can't believe that I let it get this late in the month before getting one of the gorgeous mermaids from A Day For Daisies onto a card. I have a handful who have yet to fulfill their creative destiny and it was super hard to choose who would go first. Ultimately Mermaid's Lost Shoe won the day, mostly because I liked the subtle interaction between the two worlds being portrayed in this image. Now you may be wondering what's all this about a lost shoe? Well... the original image has the mermaid holding some high heel shoes. I masked them off before printing and was able to get rid of them since I didn't need them for the sentiment and scene I wanted to create. Then I got to coloring and I went for a very bright and bold tail on this mer, and yes the fluorescent Copics even came out to play, LOL! I even added a bit of fluorescent green to the ends of her flowing hair, I guess it got a bit of algae in it. ;)

Well, after a couple days off it's back to work I go. Have a good one!

The little things...

Olo!

I've got a quick little card using an adorable A Day For Daisies digi to share today. She's actually a Halloween image called Dragon Cutie who is originally sporting some big batty wings, but I wanted to make her work on a more spring inspired card so I snipped them off and replaced them with die cut vellum butterfly wings instead. This really lightened her look and now she is ready to rest and relax amidst the sunshine and tall grass. Everything about this card says warm, spring days to me and I couldn't be happier with how it all came together.

I believe in you...

Hi there!

So I watched the new updated Pete's Dragon movie on Netflix this past week and even though it was nothing like the original one that I remember from my childhood it was still very cute and entertaining. So it's really no surprise that dragons were on my mind when it came time to create. Luckily I had this cute digi stamp called Me And My Dragon from ADFD on the ol' hard drive. I printed it out once on white cardstock then again on this green pattern paper to do a little paper piecing on the big guy himself. I like how the subtle print almost looks like the light dappling through trees onto his green scales. The kiddo on the original image is sporting pigtails but since I was going for Pete and Elliot I just chopped them right off when I fussy cut the image. I think I succeeded in taking myself back in time just a bit to my younger days when I would wish for a dragon pal all my own too.  ;)

With Easter fast approaching it was time to get another Easter card done. I went back to my A Day For Daisies digis and found this sweet Mr. Bunny called Flowers For Mrs. I really liked that he gave me the opportunity to create a more guy appropriate Easter card. So you won't find any pastel pinks or purples with this guy, instead it's a cool kinda vintage looking teal and rust combo that totally suits this cutie. It was a challenge figuring out the right Copic color combos to match that paper but so worth it in the end because I especially love how that red looks... definitely going to be using that combo again. I kept the layout design clean and simple with a single wood veneer bird for embellishing since I didn't want to fuss things up too much.

Well I'm wrapping up this week with my first Easter card of the year. Since I recently added this sweet digi stamp called Girl Loves a Bunny to my ADFD collection I couldn't wait to color her up. There is something about these kids with their backs turned to the viewer that I find totally endearing. Because I have a tendency to buy and collect any cloud background paper that I find I figured this card was the perfect opportunity to pull some out and create a dreamy spring scene for these two. It looks like the perfect Easter Sunday to me. :)

Olo! 

I found myself in the mood to color up a portrait style image yesterday because I really just wanted to focus on some hair and skin coloring. So I got on the computer and scrolled through my digis until I came across this beauty from A Day For Daisies. She was a free digi that I got off the ADFD blog a couple years ago and I think her name is Buds in Her Hair, though I can't find her in the ADFD store. The Princess Leia style hair buns looked like a fun challenge to tackle. What a pretty little princess she became with her crown of flowers and I even added in a lacy ruff to hint at the fancy gown she must be wearing. I love the old Making Memories paper that I found in my stash, it really added to the fairy tale look that I was going for on this card. I'm so happy with how it all came together. :)
