An ocean apart...

Hello, hello!

I've had this lovely mermaid sitting on my desk for a few years now and yesterday it was finally her turn to get on a card. She is a digi from Elisabeth Bell called, Tide the Mermaid. She is so pensive and sweet looking, I can't believe I waited this long to color her up. The sand bar she is sitting on inspired me to add a few more to the little bay that she is resting in, making it look like low tide. The sentiment felt like it matched her mood perfectly. So, that's another one off the desk which is always a win in my book.  ;)

Toodles!

You are magical...

Hello, hello!

Most every Sunday Elisabeth Bell sends out a creative newsletter where she includes a free digi and this past Sunday that freebie was this fabulous Mermaid Beauty. Previously she was a rubber stamp at Whimsy but has been retired for some time and is hard to find. So I was delighted to get this second chance at adding her to my mermaid collection. Obviously I didn't waste any time coloring her up and getting her on a card either, LOL! In the newsletter Elisabeth mentioned being inspired by the classic Sleeping Beauty Disney cartoon for this mermaid's look and I totally see it with that lovely peasant blouse she is sporting. I guess that is why I was inspired with the whole fairy tale vibe happening in the background too. Elisabeth also mentioned that she will be wrapping up MerMay this week by adding even more of her past mermaid stamp designs as digis to her store and I can't wait to see which ones become available again. I have a handful that I have been trying to hunt down for ages so you know I will be stalking her shop to see if any of them are there!

In my thoughts...

Hello, hello!

Since I kicked off this 'month of mermaids' with one of the darlings by Elisabeth Bell I figured it would be the perfect bookend to wrap it all up with another one of these sweet mermaids. This one is called Splish Splash and it looks like she has just swam up out of the water to rest on that cool stone seat. Her wet, dripping hair really inspired me to create a waterfall behind her. To do that, I masked her off then grabbed my Distressed Patterns stamp set and stamped the sketchy lines stamp repeatedly behind her in a very light blue ink. I then added the white sequins to mimic the frothing water at the bottom of the falls. Something about Splish Splash had me going in a 'thinking of you' direction for my card as well as a more muted color palette. There is just something very quiet and gentle about this little beauty.

Alrighty then, thanks for stopping by today!  :)

Stars and back...

Hey there!

As some of you may remember, last year I dubbed June as the Month of Mermaids and posted nothing but cards featuring our lovely finned friends. Well I'm doing it again, and while this time there will be a day here or there that I have to leave the open ocean, that just means I get to extend the mermaid love right on into July.  ;)

So today I am jumping into the water with a lovely mermaid from Sweet Pea Stamps called Glimmer. I missed out on her back in 2013 when she and her sisters were released but I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few just in time for this summer's cards. As I inked up Glimmer I suddenly saw her in a moonlit night scene for some reason. Pulling off the background was definitely a challenge but I enjoy stretching my creative muscles now and then. And I gotta tell ya that I don't think I've used this many blue Copics on a single card before, LOL! Once I had the sea and sky colored in the card still looked incomplete so I grabbed the little school of fish stamp and the willow branches which totally did the trick. Now Glimmer looks like she is resting in a hidden cove with only the stars looking down on her.

Ok then, thanks for stopping by today! :)

Leave a little sparkle...

Olo!

So last month I saw a card on Pinterest using a pretty little mermaid stamp by Elisabeth Bell and I just had to get my hands on it. So I immediately tried to find out where to buy it only to discover that they were released a couple years ago by Sweet Pea Designs which has since gone out of business. Disheartened but not discouraged I continued my internet search hoping to get lucky. After a couple strike outs I stumbled upon a little stamp shop that is sadly closing its doors as well but in the meantime has big discounts on all their remaining inventory. It's called The Stamp Room and while the exact mermaid that started my hunt was already out of stock I did find a few others to get just as excited about. I also stumbled upon this baby fairy called Flit that just stole my heart. I paired her up with some random paper scraps that were on my desk and kinda make it look like she is running into a field of flowers. The sentiment is Papertrey Ink and I think it is pretty darn perfect with little Flit. This card was a lot of fun to make.
In the meantime... if anyone knows where I can find Tide, Oceanessa and/or Little Splash please, hook a girl up!  LOL! :)

Later gators!
