It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

It's review/preview weekend before the Christmas clear release hits the shelves at Sweet November next week. This is when the team and I showcase previously released stamps on brand new cards and share sneak peeks of some of the new stamps that are soon to hit the shelves. The card I am sharing today pairs one of the deer from last year's Elegant Reindeer set with the brand new Horizon Lines: Winterscapes set. I actually masked together two of the backgrounds included in the set to create an added sense of distance in this scene. Hello bellas!

I'm up on the Bellariffic blog again and I'm switching gears as we head into serious Christmas card making season with this week's Scenic Saturday. The new Winter Woodland Backdrop has quickly become a go-to for quickly setting the perfect snow covered scene. This time around I paired it with the cute Mini Oddball and His Reindeer. I did do a minor alteration on this Oddball by wiping the ink off of the antlers on his head before stamping, which left me with the simple head of hair that I was after. 

Because this mini Oddball is carrying a lantern, I knew that I wanted to color these two into a night scene and really play up the glow of light being cast from the candle within. So, even though these woods are covered in snow I pulled out a full range of blue markers to color most of the space. The only white snow that I left is directly around the lantern and even it has a light coat of Y0000, which is a super light yellow. It is by being generous with the amount of blues used that the Winter Woodland Backdrop becomes shrouded in night time shadows. In contrast, Mini Oddball and His Reindeer were both colored to include the festive reds and greens of Christmas which when paired with the bright light of the lantern, draws your eye right to them. So as pretty as the winter background is, there is no doubt as to who are the stars of this show. Ok, well I hope this card helps you to not be afraid of adding plenty of color the next time you try your hand at coloring a snowy night.

Happy Winter...

TGIF!

I'm popping in real quick today to share the brand new digital stamp set that just got added to The Greeting Farm store. It's called Happy Winter and it includes Anya and Ian in a snowball fight, a snow covered house and car, snowman, evergreen trees and even some deer along with this sentiment. Hello Autumn...

Hello fellow Farmers!

I'm up on the Greeting Farm blog and today I've made a Fall card using one of the stylish Anyas from the big Anya Combo 2 kit. Because a lot of the cuties in this kit are wearing sweaters and other cold weather apparel, I've been waiting for the right time to start creating with them... and here we are! I instantly fell in love with this beauty and her perfect curl of hair so I decided to put together a charming small town background for her using the Store Fronts and Hello Fall digital sets. Because I wanted this quaint hometown street to appear off in the distance I played with the sizing of the Store Fronts and shrunk them way down before lining them up across the card front. Next I added the tree from the Hello Fall set in two different sizes. The smaller one was placed on the right side of the scene, slightly higher up than the larger tree placed on the left. This trick helps to reinforce the illusion of depth and distance as the larger tree appears closer to us, the viewer, and the smaller one appears to be growing further away. With the digital scene complete, I simply taped my card front that had Anya stamped and masked on it, to a sheet of computer paper and ran it through my printer. Once the mask was removed, Anya was right at home.

Now it was time to color and I kept to a very soft, autumnal color palette with lots of brown hues and grey undertones. Rather than go for all of the bright and vibrant colors of early fall scenes, I wanted this to instead look like one of those late Fall days where it just feels like it could start snowing at any minute. Most of the leaves have already fallen off the trees and have blown away, leaving bare branches etched against the dull blue sky. The sentiment is from the Foxy Fall clear set and I added it to the grass at Anya's feet to complete this pretty seasonal card. :)

Nuttin' Better...

Hello friends!

Little Nutley is an excitable Fall sprite who loves all that this colorful season has to offer. He was part of the Color-Fall clear release at Sweet November Stamps back in September and I'm just now getting around to sharing this cute card. Nutley has been busy gathering acorns to help all of his squirrel friends have enough food to make it through the coming winter. To up the woodsy, Fall look I cut the scene out using a frame die that looks like twigs and added some fun enamel shapes that match the theme.
