Last day of free shipping at Colorado Craft Company

Good morning!

Today is the last day to take advantage of Free Shipping at Colorado Craft Company. No promo code is needed, as the site will automatically apply free shipping on all US orders and International orders will get a $6.95 discount, making their shipping cost $10.00. There are also a couple fun ways to win that are still happening, the first is a chance to win the entire Christmas in July release and for that you just have to use a designer's affiliate link when you order and you will be entered into that give-away. Second, there is a new stamp set up for grabs at each individual designer's blog that is participating in the showcase, so the more blogs you comment on the more chances you'll have to win. These both end tonight at midnight EST time so don't wait too long to get in on the fun! All winners will be announced on the 3C blog August 2nd.

My cards today feature two of the new sets by Anita Jeram; Just Add Snow and Mice Lights. On this first card I cut the second baby rabbit off of the main stamp in the Just Add Snow set, making it its own stamp that I could then mask in front of the larger image along with the small snowball. The rabbit with the completed snowman was also masked to be in front of the others as well, pulling them all in close for this playful winter scene. I colored in a bright, clear day with a blanket of fresh snow on the ground. I even added snow to the branches of the tall pine tree that I colored in, using a white Sharpie for this extra bit of detail.

My second card features the super cute Mice Lights set, where the scene is already put together for you. The only additional images that I added where a few extra lights laying out in front of that tangled mess of cords. I stuck with a similar color palette to what I used on my set of indoor scene cards that I made for the blog hop so that they would all look like one cohesive set. I also did my best to have the carpeting fade to white so that the sentiment would really pop down at the bottom of the card. A sprinkling of shiny sequins and glossy accents on the lights add just the right amount of sparkle and shine to this fun Christmas card. :)

Have a wonderful day!

You're the beary best...

Hello, hello!

I'm up on the Hello Bluebird blog with some background scene die inspiration to share today. When I chose to ink up this sweet pair from the new Bear Family stamp set I needed to find inspiration for the scene that they would call home. My first inclination is always to look through the background stamps in my collection but this time I decided to flip through the scene building dies instead. It didn't take me long to land on the this great Campsite Scene die which was perfect because the middle piece gave me plenty of room to stamp my images on. I started by using the Campsite scene die to cut the background out of a sheet of Catherine Pooler card stock. Then I grabbed my Copic markers and started with the frame, coloring a wood grain pattern onto it. Working my way from the front to the back of the scene I colored all of the individual pieces, from the bushes in the foreground all the way to the snow capped mountains and blue sky off in the distance. I chose to make the section of the die between the trees and the mountains a flowing river to add another pop of blue to the card and the tall tree got the same wood grain treatment as the frame. The center piece of the die became a vast meadow where this cute mama and baby bear are strolling through the field of wild flowers, which are made up of a mix of stamps both from the Bear Family and Pig Day stamp sets. And how could I not add a few of the little bees buzzing around as well? One of the small sentiments included in the Bear Family set was the perfect size to tuck in just above this happy scene. For a bit of extra detail I used a white gel pen to dot in small clusters of flowers or clover into the distant part of the meadow, which ties back to the larger white flowers up front. I love how this looks like we've stumbled upon a candid moment between these sweet bears as they make their way through an idyllic forest scene, which is just another reason why I have to remember to play with the dies more often.

Laters!

Live it up...

Hi there!

I'm up on the Bellariffic blog once again, with a mini slimline scene to share for this week's Scenic Saturday card. Recently, it has been difficult to avoid all of the commercials and online promotion of the new Barbie movie and since I was very much a Barbie girl when I was young, when it came time for me to color up this fabulous Curvy Girl Loves to Roller Skate, I simply couldn't resist the Barbie inspiration.

Right off the bat I began coloring Curvy Girl Loves to Roller Skate in Barbie's signature pink hues and blonde hair. It's hard to tell in the photo but I also added some sparkle to her top using a Wink of Stella clear glitter pen, for extra pizzazz. When it came time to fill in the background I first did a Google search for photos of Venice Beach, California. I found this really pretty sunset shot where the sky and sand both had a wonderful dusky pink hue that was perfect for my pretty in pink Curvy Girl. To try and mimic that look I actually laid down a base coat of RV91 over the whole bottom half of the card and built up the details of the sand and sidewalk right over top. At first this was a little scary but I think that because I was working on a mini slimline size and had less background that needed to be filled in, I was more willing to experiment. Which I think is a great reminder that you don't always have to color in an entire large card front, even when playing around with scene building. In the end, even though this was my first time trying a Copic blend like this in a background, I'm quite pleased with the subtle pink tint that it created throughout the scene and I'm encouraged to do more of this kind of under-painting on future cards.

Stay crafty my friends!

I got a little carried away with all of the cuteness included in this release and have four cards to share today. I broke them down into an indoor and outdoor set of cards and I will start by sharing the outdoor cuties. This first card features the new Bird Perch mini set that includes both the rabbit and the larger of the two birds up on that branch. To help set this winter scene I also stamped up the backside of the tree in the older Hiding Presents set and added the small bird on the branch from the Hanging Stockings mini set. I colored the rest of this snowy winter scene by hand using Copic markers and completed the card with one of the sentiments from the new Peaceful Fox set.

For my second card I used the new Peaceful Fox set. Rather than color a traditional orange fox, I opted to make mine a white arctic fox instead. As the stamped tree had rather spindly branches, I colored the space between them with the green of the pine needles and left the drawn parts white to look like snow resting on the new branches. This gave the tree a much fuller, more substantial look on my card. Once again, the rest of the background was created using Copic markers and I added the falling snow using a Sharpie extra fine white paint pen.

My second set of cards shifts to indoor scenes and rather than the traditional reds and greens of Christmas, I chose to play with a fun mix of bright pink, chartreuse and teal on both. This first one features a pair of cute mice playing with some tree ornaments from the Mice Ornament set. I wanted it to look like they were tucked under the bottom branches of a Christmas tree so I added the trunk and branches by hand. And it's hard to see in the photo but I also added glitter to the snowman ornament to make him extra sparkly.

Finally, I inked up the sweet dog and cat from the new Gift Exchange set. I have a personal affinity for handsome tuxedo cats and I thought his friend should be a chocolate lab. I used the same bright colors as I did on the previous card, even using the Copic airbrush system to shine a spotlight on these two pals, with the bright pinks. The tiny holly stamp that I decorated the sentiment with was borrowed from the Mice Ornaments set

Ok, time to send you on your way. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the hop!
