Hello from the boo crew...

Hello there!

I'm up on the Hello Bluebird blog today, sharing a too cute to spook Halloween card featuring the costumed kiddos from the Boo Crew set. These darling trick or treaters have such a fun retro vibe about them that I couldn't wait to create a special scene for them to live in. The Country Roads Background stamp is perfect with its little house up on the hill. I did wipe the ink away from the original path before stamping so I could shift it a bit and make the new path work with the direction the kids are walking. In the foreground I lined the path with the cute jack o'lanterns from the Frightful Little Bits set. When building a one layer scene I first pull together all of the individual stamps that I plan on using and lay them out on the card stock I'll be stamping on to get a sense of where everything will fall. This particular card is a standard A2 size situated horizontally so there would be plenty of room for this troupe of trick or treaters. Masking is important in order to create layers within the scene and you have to remember to always stamp the closest images first and then work your way to the back. So in this case, pumpkins first, kids second and background third. One of the fun things about coloring a night scene is how dramatic you can be with the shadows and shading. Rather than relying on super smooth blends you can get away with more contrast to really play up the 'moodiness' that comes with the darker colors. So with the moon shining down and a dark sky full of stars this all comes together for one perfect Halloween night. The Boo Crew are enjoying full bags of candy and it is time to be heading back home.  :)
