All you need is love...

Hello!

I've got one more Valentine's Day card to share over on the Bellarific blog for this week's Scenic Saturday post. This time around I inked up the adorable Bundle Girl with a Heart Trail to create a clean and simple design that plays with high contrast. Because my card is oriented horizontally I stamped the trail of hearts a second time so that they stretch all the way across the front of the card. I then colored Bundle Girl using Copic markers, giving her a fairly neutral outfit while coloring the hearts in various shades of pinks and reds. Next comes the really fun and the really easy part... the background. The idea was to make it look like the hearts are leading little Bundle to an open door that is shining a bright light into the dark room she's been in, like how following your heart can bring you into brighter days. To get that look all I did was mask off Bundle Girl and lay a scrap piece of paper over the card stock at a diagonal from the upper right corner, down to just behind her feet. I then grabbed a range of the warm grey Copics and used my Copic airbrush system to fill in the top half of the card with a dark grey shadow that lightens as it nears the spotlight. You can achieve this same look even without the airbrush, just use a very light grey to sketch in the diagonal line and then color in the space above by hand. Once my dark shadow was in I peeled away the mask and added some warm greys to the parts of her clothing that fell above that spotlight line, deepening the shadows from one part of her outfit to the other. I also added strong shadows beneath Bundle's feet and all of the hearts trailing ahead of her to really ground them and make it appear like there is a floor there rather than a white void. The hearts then got a bit of sparkle added with a Wink of Stella clear glitter pen and a coat of Ranger glossy accents for shine and dimension. The sentiment is part of the Chocolate Sentiment set but I only applied ink to the top line of the sentiment, omitting the part that references chocolate, to make it work for this card. Like I said, it's a simple scene to create but that contrast between light and dark tells such an effective story. :)

Stay crafty my friends!
