Hello friends!
It's the first Scenic Saturday card of the new year over on the Bellarific blog and I was inspired by how cold and snowy it has been in my neck of the woods. With freezing temps and record snowfall it's all I can do to bundle up in my coziest knits and try to stay warm. This led me to grab the cute Knitting Penguin stamp with yards and yards of scarf wrapped all around. And I didn't stop there... as I was flipping through my binder of stamps I also came across Bundle Girl in a Pile of Leaves and she had the same fun scarf motif going on as well. I ended up cutting the leaves off so they are their own stamps and Bundle Girl can work for winter or fall scenes now. Once she was stamped behind the penguins through a bit of masking, I colored all of the scarves and hats using the same three color combos so it looks like our happy little knitter can't stop clicking those knitting needles, LOL! The background is a simple blue sky that transitions into high snow drifts, notice how the darker blue of the sky defines the top edge of the snow and I use the white of the card stock to be the whitest parts of the snow. But you don't want to leave it stark white as it will look odd within the rest of the scene so you want to be sure and give the snow a few shadows as well. I'll also let you in on a little secret, my initial plan was to have the scene fill the entire card front but when the stamping of the sentiment went a bit sideways and didn't look so hot I had to come up with a way to salvage all the work I had already put into this card. So I found a decorative border die and cut off the bottom of the scene. I then stamped the sentiment again, this time on my card base and popped the scene panel using foam tape. The card was saved and no one is the wiser that this wasn't my original plan all along. What's that saying to keep in mind? There are no mistakes, just embellishment opportunities. ;)
Stay cozy and crafty!
